The May issue of Outdoor Life has ranked Mountain Home #11 out of its Top 20 Towns for great fishing and hunting.
The article notes that Mtn Home, which was the number one town in the magazine's inaugural ranking four years ago, "...continues to hold strong... The small town of fewer than 15,000 people is nestled in a valley in the heart of the beautiful Ozark Mountains between two enormous reservoirs: Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes."
The article notes that local anglers enjoy year-round, open-water fishing for numerous species, including largemouth, smallmouth and striped bass; walleyes, crappies, bream; and catfish. The White and North Fork Rivers hold enormous brown and rainbow trout, which thrive in the coldwater habitat below the dams.
The Outdoor Life article goes on to note "stellar fishing isn't the only game in town. Whitetail populations are holding steady, stands of red and white oak trees are the haven of innumerable squirrels, and chasing gobblers through the hollows of the Ozarks National Forest is as much of a rite of spring as listening to Cardinals baseball..."
REMEMBER, Flippin is only a 15 minute drive from Mountain Home, so come see us! We have an abundant properties for you hunters and fishermen!
Since last reported in January, our weather has made some signifcant improvements. Last week we had sunny skies and 70's all around. This week, not so much. We've had rain, but it's much needed. Among the benefits will be increased forage for our gilled friends. High lake levels have made the last few years create some great spawns, and this spring we should be able to take advantage of the growth in the last years. Trout, on the other hand, is always great. Having grown up in Northern Illinois, I thought the only clear water on earth came from a tap, then I moved here.
People shop for land and houses here for a variety of reasons. Locals generally want a roof over their head they can call their own. Folks from all over the country come here for vacation cottages, retirement homes, and investment opportunities among other reasons. Our area offers all those and more. While property values here have not fallen near as much as they have in other areas, many places have spent more time on the market than they have in previous years. What that means to buyers is they are in a strong position, probably the strongest position buyers here have been in years. If you were interested in our area, now would be a good time to start investigating what is available. In a few years when the national economy returns to form, and people from all over are able to move about again, well, I'm going to want to be a seller then.
Come to Arkansas folks. You'll be glad you did. You will probably meet some of your old neighbors!
